His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sharjah and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport subsidiary of the Arab States University, headquartered in Egypt, to establish the Arab Academy in Khorfakkan, Sharjah.

The Academy offers the College of Maritime Transport and Technology with two specializations: Maritime Transport Technology, which has two disciplines; port operations and offshore operations. The major will qualify graduates with a bachelor's degree and a second mate certificate of competency. The Maritime Engineering Technology will qualify students with a bachelor's degree and a third engineer certificate of competency. Both disciplines qualify graduates to work on commercial ships and offshore vessels.
